I shall read this novel after the exam!
A quote from sparknotes which tries to explain "darkness" in this novel:
--Failing to see another human being means failing to understand that individual and failing to establish any sort of sympathetic communion with him or her.
I value "communion" here the most. For that's an essential skill to experience art (no natter in which form).
